He was born in 15.10.1958 in Kocaeli Karamürsel. He doesn’t seem interested in sports until the age of 25. In 1982, he went to work as a worker in a tire factory in Izmit. As he decided to begin wrestling, he quit his job in 1985. He began his wrestling training next to his master, Kadir Birlik.
In Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling which he participated for the first time in 1985, he was defeated in the first round at Small Middle Big category. He got first place at big middle category in 1986 and steerage category in 1987. Taşçı, beginning wrestling in Head Wrestler category, got fifth place at Head Wrestler category which he competed for the first time in 1988 and got third place at head wrestler category in 1989. Right after, he became the head wrestler for the first time in 1990. He became the permanent owner of the golden belt presented by Edirne Municipality and got married in 1992. In 1993, he won the golden belt in both Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling and Historical Elmalı Oil Wrestling.
Ahmet Taşçı participated in international wrestling competitions since 1992 thanks to his success. He took first in Germany, France, Holland, Greece and Macedonia. He also got third place in World Championship of 4. Sumo Wrestling held in Japan in 1995.
Taşçı was honored by Edirne Municipality ahead of Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling in 2005 and he became the first wrestler whose statue to be erected in Sarayiçi Field of Contest while going on his wrestling career. His life was brougt into documentary film by BBC television in 2009. He joined the introduction of Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling in Stockholm, Sweden within the scope of EDEN Project in 2010.
He wrestled with japanese sumo wrestler, Akina Mina on the purpose of Show at Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling in 2010.
Because of his contribution to the oil wrestling, he was awarded with belt made of brass by UNESCO and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2010 and this award was given to him by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, R.T. the Prime Minister of that period.
After leaving active wrestling sports life, he served as Oil Wrestling Chairman of Executive Council of Turkey Wrestling Federation.
