During the period of Güngör Mazlum-Mayor of Edirne, 35 artists participated with 60 works to the Emblem Contest. The Selection Committee was Sebahattin Çakmakoğlu-governor, Güngör Mazlum-mayor, Selahattin Çakal – president of E.M.M. Academy, Dr.Ratip Kazancıgil – health manager, Rıfat Yılmazer – member of municipal council, Özcan Ayyıldız - architect, Tayyip Yılmaz-painter, Rıza Ataktürk – journalist, writer. As a result of the evaluation made in 8 May 1978, the work of Semih Akın was chosen as the Emblem of Kırkpınar. Semih Akın interpreted Kırkpınar Emblem as: main motif of Heirloom Kırkpınar Wrestlings is undoubtedly 2 pehlivans wrestling. Giving this motif by modernising was my main purpose in my Works.” he said.
